I finally got in a run

I finally got in my second run. It has been a crazy week and even though things were relatively calm yesterday I managed to not fit in a run for yet another day. Today after taking Sally to the dog park because she was driving me CRAZY, I finally laced up my shoes and went for a run. My training program called for a 5 mile base run (with my base pace btwn 7:09-6:25.) I choose a 5.5 mile route (in hopes that that extra half mile would make up for some of the missed runs.) The route is a basic loop around my neighborhood. I designed it so that it is as “scenic” as possible.
Anyways as for my run itself it was pretty uneventful. My mind was still obsessed with my job situation and I struggled to focus on the run itself. As a result the paced dragged, especially towards the end after I ran by my house. I have yet to figure out how to add javascript to the page and Amy forgot to give me permission to edit the layout, so I have posted a jpg of the details. You’ll notice I ran just outside of my goal pace. Oops!

Day 4 – Resting Again?

Funny that I’m having more resting days now than I will when I really up the mileage. The irony is that I should actually be resting, as in sleeping, rather than working.

2 hours of sleep in 1 night is not enought to run on let alone live on. Let’s hope for better tomorrow.

Day 3 – A Proper Wake Up Call

I thought about not running again this morning. Which in theory, doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t have run today, but in reality, I find that that is often the case. Especially when I’m set ot be in meetings all day and have already gotten dressed once (who has the energy to get all ready twice?).

So I pulled myself out of bed and headed to the gym (albeit late since as usual I got distracted by email). My stomach was hurting again and the instructions for today were “1.5 warm up and then a 1.5 mile cool down” so I thought that must mean I’m supposed to run slow anywas.

Here’s what I did:

Distance – Right around 3.1 miles total
1.5 mile warm up
30 second hill repeat X 1
1.5 mile cool down

Time -
About 34:45 total

First 1.5 took around 17:30 (sheesh!), hill repeat was 30 seconds at 6.0 RPM on 6.0 hill, last 1.5 took closer to 17:00. All in all certainly not my best times ever, but at least I did it!

Pace – 11:12.6 (not half bad considering I started at 12 min pace!)

How I felt – overall I’m just glad I did the run. Hopefully I’ll fit some weights in later to really combine yesterday’s workout and today’s but we’ll see.

“Yesterday” = early this morning

Run when you can – yesterday was a ridiculously crazy day at work. I ended up leaving work at 1:30A.M. Thankfully, when I got home I wasn’t exhausted but rather exhilarated. So despite the fact that it was 1:45 in the morning I decide to risk it, lace up my shoes and run. Normally I run down by the water, but since there is no light there I decided it was probably a bad idea. Instead I ran down Lombard street (which is a large heavily trafficked, well lit street.) It wasn’t the most exciting run in the world, but I was really glad I got it done and didn’t miss the first run of a new training plan. Hopefully they all went be as hard to squeeze in as this one.

Day 2 – Slacking Already

It’s only day 2 and already I’ve slacked on my training regimen.

With 14 hours of work today, starting at 6 and ending at 10:30 until I drunkenly/tiredly stumbled home, I just couldn’t figure out how to work my 3 mile run in.

Instead I’m going to go to bed now and wake up early to do a run (in place of my scheduled cross-training) and then some strength training.

Sleeping is part of training, right?

Day 1 – On your marks…

My first run has officially been completed.

Now don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t actually my first run. Not even my first run in recent memory. As a matter of fact, I ran more miles just this weekend than I did today.

But somehow, this one was different. It’s the start of my training. The first official day that I’m really working towards those 26.2 miles rather than just running in circles.

So it was fitting that it started out so poorly with a hurting stomach and little motivation. I think the universe didn’t want me to think that this was going to be easy or anything.

Here are the stats:

Distance – 3 miles
Time – 32:41
Pace – 10:53.66
Drills -

  • 20 seconds running with no arms
  • 20 seconds hopping on each leg

How I felt – Good! Not my best run ever, especially timing wise,. But I’m definitely going to have to learn and slow down. Until today, I wasn’t even sure what a base run really meant. I’ve always just tried to run my fastest (which BTW isn’t very fast). I started out feeling good. Then looked down and realized I was only running 5 MPH. No wonder I felt so good! I went straight up to 5.5 and then gradually increased to about 5.8. I went back down to 5.7 because I was hurting at the 2 mile mark. Then I finished strong with a couple minutes at 5.9, 30 seconds at 6.5, and 30 seconds at 7.

Day 1 – Amy

Ugh, my stomach hurts so badly today. I really don’t know how I’m going to run. But it’s the first “real” day. I can’t not run already, right? Maybe if I put my running shorts on it will help…
