Days 13 and 14- Go Long!

I did my first real long run (as scheduled) on Sunday. About 5.5 miles. It was hot out, that’s for sure. But I still managed to maintain 11 minute mile pase which is right in my 10:30-11:30 base pace range. Yay!

And this morning I wasn’t scheduled to run, and I even missed it. Crazy! We’ll see how my run tomorrow goes.

Day 12- And I’m Back!

Finally, I’m back! And while not home again yet (here in RI with Greg), at least I’m running again.

I went out on the beach today and felt really good.

Here’s the recap:

Time: 39:00

Distance: TBD – a little less than 4 miles?

Workout: Base pase with 4X30 seconds at 1 mile pace sprinkled in (I actually kinda liked these mini sprints which was surprising)

How I felt: It was a nice run – not too hard but not too easy either. In fact, the run even inspired me to take a quick dip. Yay!

Days 10 and 11

Day 10 was an optional rest day. Being that I spend most of the day flying out to Chicago and then the rest of the evening at work events, I opted out.

Day 11 started with great plans. I was up at 5:45 CST, despite the time change. I was going to do 20 minutes of a podfitness workout. However, once dressed, I found that I couldn’t locate my room key. After 20 minutes of looking, I had used up all of my workout time so I dutifully undressed again and got back into the shower. Dissapointing to say the least…

Day 9

Another run with the dog day. Greg and I went down to the beach and ran slowly along the sand. I’m sure I didn’t meet my planned 3.5 miles, but at least I got out there and did something.

Week 2 Day 4

I got a slow start today. It ended with my eating breakfast after eleven without having run yet, which is never a good sign. Knowing myself and the difficulty in going for a later afternoon run after spending the day at the beach I sucked it up and when for a run in the heat of the day. While thankfully it is only around 80 today, the humidity of the east coast is not something I am used to on my runs in California. Today’s workout called for 4.5 miles at base pace with 4×30 seconds at my mile pace. The whole run felt very sluggish as my legs were sore and the heat/humidity were a little stiffling. I managed to squeeze in just under the upper end of my base pace. The 4×30 second “sprints” felt good as a change of pace, but definitely did not help my legs feel any fresher. BTW I am sorry for the appearance of the page and my poor posting record; I will hopefully have more time and energy to put into this blog when law school starts back up again and I need something to distract me from my hours of reading :)

Week 2 Day 3

For my cross training today I went for a canoe ride. While I paddled hard, we took a nice break at the “boat beach” and our timing could not have been more perfect. Since the weather was mediocre we decided to go for a canoe ride (there being nothing better to do in a small beach town without a store.) When we left it was cloudy and appeared to be threatening rain. However when we got to the canoe beach the clouds had disappeared and we enjoyed a beautiful half hour plus at the beach before deciding to head back. The minute we began the canoe ride back the clouds began to gather again. In fact no sooner had we loaded the canoe onto our hand-made man-pulled canoe trailer did a loud thunder echo across the pond. Our lucked continue as we had just finished putting the canoe and trailer away when the rain began. So while I have had much better workouts, my timing has never been better.

Week 2 Day 1 & 2

Unfortunately day 1 was a planned rest day. I dutifully rested soaking up doing nothing guilt free. Of course day 2 was a crazy whirlwind day which started early and ended at 1 in the morning. Despite the fact that I had dutifully scheduled a run with a coworker it never materialized. So yet again I did not get in my run :(

Day 8 – The Best Laid Plans

If nothing else, I’m learning to be a little more patient with myself.

My run today should have been 3.5 miles at base pace with two drills (2*bounding, 2*high knees). But the dog hadn’t been out all day. And she looked so sad…

So we ran SLOWLY (if you can call it running) down to the beach, where I tried to keep moving while she played. Then we jogged a little more – faster when we hit the grass since she really wanted to run through it.

I did my drills on the way home.

All in all, not exactly what I was supposed to do, but hey, it was something! I’m proud :)

Days 6 and 7 – Paying for it

Today was supposed to be a rest day. Too bad yesterday was one too. That’s what you get for having too much fun at a bachelorette party. I’m still paying for it!

Looking forward to getting back into it tomrorow!

Day 5 – A couple days late

I was supposed to run 3 miles today, but somehow it just wasn’t happening.

I ran 18 minutes at an avg heart rate of 170.

Then I did about 15 minutes of this workout:

  • 5 pushups
  • 10 squats
  • 15 situp

Thanks, Arwyn!

Then we walked back to our starting point. So while it wasn’t ideal, still had a good workout.
